Her becoming queen was her freedom. Victoria reportedly had a very lonely childhood while growing up. Marrying Albert gave Victoria desperately needed loving human connection. He was the first person she ever believed cared for her as a person rather than a personage. Losing Albert removed a big portion of her personal identity. I can imagine she felt that although she was still Queen, she was no longer a beloved woman. This would have caused her to feel unsure that she could manage all that was required of her without her help mate. Not having had a healthy relationship with her own Mother, she would have been clueless as to how to be the Queen and still give her children normal motherly devotion. So she did what Queens do. She attempted to rule over them. She may have made poor decisions, but which of us has not? If Dr Piers Brendon describes Victoria as a dictator, it should be because of her relationship with three of her four _sons_. And perhaps two of her grandsons.Helshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02849907428208235392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5640041156570327774.post-51291661213656958522014-03-18T01:19:06.735-07:002014-03-18T01:19:06.735-07:00Absolutely! And as I sat here writing it I couldn't help but feel a little sympathy for Victoria here-I think I would've done exactly the same in her position. Grief is grief I guess. QV has always fascinated me. I love learning History through key figures and it's articles like these that largely appear on my blog, along with the occasional interest piece or 'what if?' style piece.
